Latin. n. Of counsel. Used to describe a lawyer who assists in a trial proceeding but who is not the chief attorney. Sometimes this is used to designate a retired attorney in a firm but who every once and a while does legal work. This was the term used in the civil law by some writers instead of “a responses.”
