Thompson v. St. Regis Paper Co

102 Wash. 2d 219, 685 P.2d 1081 (1984)

Facts

Thompson (P) worked for St. Regis(D) for 17 years. On January 17, 1980, he was asked to resign for the good of the company. The very next day he was awarded a $10,000 bonus. D refused to give P a reason for his firing. P sued D and filed for summary judgment; the employment relationship was terminable at will, and no material issue of fact was present to refute that contention. The motion was granted. P appealed.
