Stanard v. Bolin

565 P.2d 94 (1977)

Facts

P and D were introduced by friends. D assured P that he was worth in excess of $2 million and was planning to retire in two years. D promised P that she would never have to work again and that D would support her two teenage boys and promised to see that P's mother would never be in need. P accepted D's proposal for marriage about a year after they met. Many things were done to prepare for the wedding, and they bought a home and signed a purchase agreement as husband and wife, although not yet married. P put her home up for sale and sold most of her furniture. A wedding date was set with all the preparations in place, and everyone was told. P even quit her job, and then D told P that he would not marry her. Nonetheless, this situation caused P financial and emotional harm. P sued D.
