Oliver v. United States

466 U.S. 170 (1984)

Facts

In both cases, police officers got tips that individuals were growing marijuana on their property. While the marijuana was on the people's property, the patches were in an open field and the middle of a wooded area, respectively, located some distance from each person's home. Police officers walked through the areas, past a no trespassing sign, and eventually discovered the marijuana on the people's property. D's were convicted in their respective trials and appealed.
