Greene v. Mcelroy

360 U.S. 474 (1959)

Facts

Greene (P) was a defense contractor executive, and his security clearance was revoked because of an alleged association with communists. At his hearing, P and other witnesses testified in refutation of the charges. No witnesses were produced by the government, but it relied on confidential, secret reports of informers to cross-examine P and his witnesses. P was fired from his $18,000 per year job and forced to find work at a salary of $4,700 per year. The Court of appeals sustained the government action.
