Glenn v. Savage

14 Or. 567, 13 P. 442 (1887)

Facts

Building material owned by Savage (D) accidentally fell into the Columbia River. Glenn (P) saw the accident and of his own accord saved the material from being carried away by the river. P incurred reasonable expenses of $20. D never reimbursed P for his expenses. P sued. A verdict was rendered in favor of P for $450. D appealed a court instruction that indicated D would be liable for the reasonable value of the services rendered under these circumstances.
