Facts

P states he is not a lawyer and that D is a lawyer, licensed in the State of Washington. P alleges D approached him in January 1992 with a business proposition: for every client P steered into D's office, P would receive one-third of any fee received. P accepted the offer and directed clients to D. P was paid by D. P maintains he directed a client to D in March 1993; D breached the agreement and refused to pay him. P states the one-third of the fee due him is about $89,000. P sued D for breach of contract. The trial court found the alleged contract was illegal and unenforceable and dismissed P's claim with prejudice. The trial court also ordered the D to pay $89,000 into the court registry pending an investigation of the fee. D moved for reconsideration, but the motion was denied. This appeal resulted.
