Latin. n. Multiplier by four, an exaggerator, an informer. An informer could institute criminal proceedings and then receive a reward of a fourth part. The rewards, proposed by the Roman laws to the informer, were sometimes a fourth part of the criminal's goods; and sometimes only an eighth part.
