A nick name for an illegal practice of stock manipulation which consists of a series of purchases and sales of the same stock by a small group of securities dealers. This drives up the stock’s price bringing unsuspecting buyers who get stuck with overpriced stock when the manipulators sell off their shares for a quick profit.
