The guardians or keepers of a church who are also the representatives of the body of the parish. Sometimes they are appointed by the minister, and sometimes by the parish, or by both. For some purposes they are the growth and efficiency of the work of corporation; they may by that name have property in goods and chattels, and sue for the use and profit of the parish.
