Sligh was paralyzed by an auto accident with Lorance, an uninsured motorist, who was operating a car while intoxicated. Sligh sued and won a judgment of $5,000,000. Lorance's only assets were his interests as beneficiary of two trusts established by his mother. The trust had a prohibition clause against creditors and debts. Sligh alleged that Lorance's mother knew that he was a habitual drunk and a reckless driver and had been in many accidents and had been convicted on numerous occasions of drunk driving. They alleged that the trust was an intentional plan to allow Lorance to live his debauched lifestyle.
