Facts

Bessie was found dead in her bath at Herne Bay. D had gone through with a ceremony of marriage with the deceased while being married to another. During trial, it was noted that subsequent to the death of Bessie, two other women named Alice, and Margaret had both died in their baths under nearly the same circumstances as those in the Bessie case. In both of these cases, D had gone through a ceremony of marriage. D appealed his conviction of murder and death sentence.
