Facts

Poletown (P) sued to stop Detroit (D) from using the power of eminent domain to take private land and put it into the hands of a private entity (General Motors) for its uncontrolled use in profit making. P contends that there is no public use in such a taking. D did the taking under its power granted under the Economic Development Corporations Act, Mich. Comp. Laws Sections 125.160l, and Mich Stat. Ann Sections 5.3520.
