H had been in the military service for approximately twenty-seven years and had been married to W for all but approximately one year of that time. H was going to retire from the military after he served thirty years. W claimed an interest in H's military retirement benefits. H contends that because of his contributions to the marriage, and her lack thereof, he was entitled to the entire pension. The court found that the parties owned various real and personal property which should be equitably distributed. The judgment stated that 'the Court has considered W's claim for equitable distribution of H's Military Retirement Plan and the Survivor's Benefit Plan and in determining W's need for support by way of alimony and H's ability to pay. The court ordered the parties to sell the four parcels of real estate they owned jointly and to equally divide the net proceeds. W was awarded permanent periodic alimony in the amount of $2000 per month, and H was ordered to purchase a life insurance policy in the amount of $100,000 to secure the permanent periodic alimony payments so long as they were payable. The court awarded the retirement plan to H. W appealed.
