P was a special police officer in Atlantic City. P possessed knowledge concerning the theft of certain diamonds and jewelry from D who advertised a reward for the recovery of the property. P claims D entered into a verbal contract for the payment of $500 if P could procure the names and addresses of the thieves. P got the names and addresses, and D refused to pay. P was awarded the judgment. D appealed.
