Certain zones in Ladue (P) were designated as one family residential. This was detailed in an ordinance for which the stated purpose was health, safety, morals, and general welfare. Ds purchased a home located in the single-family residential zone of P. Ds were not married and between them had three children of which two attended universities and were not home most of the time. P made demands on D to vacate the household, as they did not compromise a family. Ds refused to vacate, and P sued to enjoin Ds. The trial court entered a permanent injunction in favor of P and Ds appealed. Ds contended that the ordinance violated free association and privacy.
