Facts
Arkoma (P), a limited partnership organized under the laws of Arizona brought suit on a contract dispute in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Carden (Ds), two Louisiana citizens. P invoked federal diversity jurisdiction. Ds moved to dismiss because one of the partnership's limited partners was a Louisiana citizen. The motion was denied, and P eventually got the judgment. Ds appealed and the Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, affirmed on appeal; the partnership's citizenship was to be determined by reference to the citizenship of the general, but not the limited, partners. The Supreme Court granted certiorari.
