An abbreviation for Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. A private, non-profit public benefit corporation, authorized by the U.S. government to, among other things, administer the internet domain name system. ICANN, a quasi-governmental entity created to take over significant responsibilities from the federal government as part of the privatization of the domain name system (“DNS”).
