Facts

Hanton (D) accidentally pulled his car in front of another, causing him to brake suddenly. That person then followed D until they stopped. The victim tried to pull D from his car. D drew a pistol and shot and killed the victim. D was charged with first-degree manslaughter. D requested an instruction that the state prove beyond a reasonable doubt the lack of self-defense. That request was denied. D was convicted and appealed.
