Prohibitions Del Re

12 Co. Rep. 63 (1609)

Facts

Bancroft Archbishop of Canterbury made a complaint to the King over matters before the ecclesiastical judges in the Court of High Commission and Prohibitions. Bancroft said, the King himself may decide matters as Judges are but Delegates of the King and the King is at liberty to do with them and their cases and decisions as he pleases. This power comes from God. Sir Edward Coke gave his answer.
