Jones (P) was a certified teacher and senior master of a school. Mrs. Jones (D) imputed moral misconduct between P and a Mrs. Ellen Roberts (P, a single man, had sex with a married woman), the wife of the occasional janitor of the school. P sued D in slander. It was not alleged that P had been removed from his office nor was there any evidence of special damages. The jury assessed general damages at 10 pounds.
