Champion (D) was invited into the house of an ex-employer by that person's son to make a telephone call and took a shotgun. Later that night more guns were taken. The police were informed. Police got information that D was in possession of three guns. D was later reported to police in an attempt to pawn the guns but was refused in that D had no proper I.D. D's friend agreed to pawn the weapons using his own I.D. D was eventually apprehended and tried for burglary and at trial contended he was innocent. D claimed that he lacked the permanent intent to deprive the owner of his property. D asserted that he only borrowed them and intended to redeem them. D was convicted and appealed.
