Saadeh v. Farouk

107 F.3d 52 (D.C. Cir. 1997)

Facts

Farouki (D) borrowed money from Saadeh (P) and then defaulted on the loan. When the suit was filed to collect the unpaid funds, D was a citizen in Maryland under the status of a permanent resident immigrant but still a Jordanian citizen. P was a Greek citizen. While the lawsuit was underway, D became a citizen of the U.S. The district court found for P and D appealed on the merits in that there was no jurisdiction over him. The Court of Appeals asked the parties to brief jurisdiction.
